Year 4 – home learning

Home learning in Y4

Try to do these things every day:

  • reading
  • Times Table Rock Stars
  • an activity off DB Primary

Your teachers can see your work on DB Primary, and can send you messages about your work. You can also leave questions and messages for your teachers on DB Primary.

One of the Y4 staff will contact you and your family every week, usually on Thursdays.

Year 4 Home Learning for week beginning 11th May

A letter to Class 9 from Mr Jensen

Dear parents, carers and children,

I hope that you are all having a great time together at home and that you are all happy, safe and well. I am at home with my wife, and we are looking after each other by keeping each other entertained when staying indoors and only going out for our shopping or our daily exercise.

Your year 4 teachers have been working really hard on DB primary to make sure that you can all find something interesting to do every day. We have been changing pages too, so make sure you keep looking. We want you to keep reading – use Epic reading, Oxford Owl or Audible – all the links and passwords are on DB forums for you and we have emailed them to you too. We want you to use times tables rock stars and see if you can become rock legends. On DB lots of the activities are interactive and fun so you can enjoy doing them with your families.

On DB there are lots of ways to show us your learning – write in a forum, upload work or write about you learning in the boxes that say “contribute”. We would love to see what you are all doing! Try to keep some of your learning in your home learning book, it will be a great diary when you come back to school to share of what you did during this time.

I know that I have been busy! I have been cooking a lot, making some of my favourite dishes including Aush, Ghormeh Sabzi and pizza. I have also been cleaning, sorting out cupboards and looking after our cat and our new rescue dog. I have been indoors watching TV, reading books, updating DB and playing games with my wife – Backgammon is our favourite! I have also played in some online quizzes with my brother and sister as we can’t be together in person right now. How have you been spending your days?

I have also been trying to do daily exercise – walking round the field near my house with my dog and gardening. My garden has never looked so tidy! What exercise have you and your families been doing? Let me know on DB.

This week I am going to plant some herb seeds and see if I can grow some mint and parsley to add to my cooking, I am going to go on a 5km run around my village and send a 100th Birthday card to Captain Tom Moor who is 99 years old and raised more than 25 million pounds for the NHS. What a great guy!!

Whatever you do with your family this week, I hope you are happy and safe. Keep looking at DB as we change it every day. Keep talking to us in the forums and contribute boxes so we can see what learning you have been doing.

Stay safe and have fun!

Mr Jensen

More for class 9, from Mrs Kemp

Hiya class 9!

Just wanted to add an extra little message onto your letter to let you all know how much I am missing you and how much I can’t wait to see you all again!

I hope you are all keeping safe and having lots of fun at home!

I know I haven’t been able to speak to any of you on the phone during the weekly phone calls, but I wanted you to know that I have been speaking to Mr Jensen and Mrs Nikou every week to see how you are all doing and making sure you are all ok!

It’s been great seeing how active and engaged you have been with your online learning. I really hope you are enjoying some of the activities we have been setting you.

If you have done something at home that you think the rest of Year 4 would enjoy you could suggest the idea on one of the forums!

It would be great to share your learning with each other!

Remember when I said I would need to finish work and rest before Baby Kemp arrives, well that day has arrived. She is due in 4 weeks’ time and I’ve got lots of things to get ready before she arrives, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t be thinking of you all and looking forward to the time when I can come and see you, along with Baby Kemp.

Remember to stay safe, positive and have fun!

I will see you all soon!

Mrs Kemp

I made a marble run from toilet roll tubes – you can see it on the loo roll challenge page.

I know that I have been busy, I have been baking and cooking, cleaning and sorting out cupboards, looking after my children and my parents too! I have been indoors watching tv, reading books, updating DB and playing games with my children – monopoly is their favourite game! I have played in some quizzes with my sisters that we have played online together as we can’t be together right now. How have you been spending your days?

I have also been trying to do some daily exercise – walking round the field near my house or trying yoga, even though I am not very good at it! What exercise have you and your families been doing? Let me know on DB.

This week I am going to plant some seeds and see if I can grow some flowers, I am going to go for a bike ride and send 100th Birthday card to Captain Tom Moor who is 99 years old and raised more than 25 million pounds for the NHS.

Whatever you do with your family this week, I hope you are happy and safe. Keep looking at DB as we change it every day. Keep talking to us in the forums and contribute boxes so we can see what learning you have been doing.
