Induction/Transition

New Arrivals

Many of our children join our school at times other than at the start of Nursery or Reception. When children start school, it is important that their initial experiences are as positive as possible, bearing this in mind OTCA provide a New Arrivals programme.

Reception and Nursery Induction

Once families are offered a place at our Nursery or Reception, all children joining our EYFS will be included in our universal induction programme. This programme is designed to help children settle into their new environment quickly and comfortably. In some cases, a bespoke induction programme may be necessary, and any specific needs can be discussed with the EYFS Lead. All parents/carers will also be invited to a 'Transition to EYFS' meeting too where you will receive a pack with lots of information, receive help to complete any paperwork and meet the staff who will be teaching and caring for your child.

For more information on how to prepare your child for EYFS, please visit our EYFS page under the Learning tab.

What if my child has additional needs?

If your child needs additional support to settle into Reception, please make sure you share as much information as possible with their new teacher. They can work with you to find strategies to support your child.

Summer born children, or those speaking English as an additional language (EAL), may need more support.

If you know or suspect your child has special educational needs (SEND), developmental differences or delays, some of these skills may not be achievable for them at this point.

Early support makes a big difference – ask your child’s nursery, school, health visitor, local children’s centre or family hub for help.

Families and schools working together in partnership gives your child the best possible chance of a happy and positive time in school.

Y6 Secondary School Transition

At Old Trafford Community Academy, we have significant links to our partner Secondary schools. During the summer term, our Assistant Headteacher for Upper Key Stage 2, our SENDCO and DDSL, work closely with Secondary schools in order to ensure our children have a smooth transition to Secondary school. We work with our partner Secondary school to ensure inclusion and to provide an enhanced transition where needed.
